Zoo Project Costs

Objective:  I can calculate the cost of building my zoo through using the 4 operations and my understanding of area and perimeter.

First you will need to find the area and perimeter of each enclosure. You will use the prices below to calculate the cost of each enclosure in meters.

Record all your calculations on your google spreadsheet.

START UP COSTS

Design a Zoo Project!

Your task is to design your own zoo.  You have been given a total budget of $100,000 dollars.  The total cost of your zoo must not exceed the budget you have.  Your zoo must have at least 5 different enclosures with at least 5 different species of animal and there must be some type of vegetation inside your enclosures based on the animal's needs.  There are some logical steps that you need to follow to complete the design of your zoo.

Firstly, you will need to decide on the animals that you wish to have in your zoo.  You will need to decide on the animals that you wish to have in your zoo.  You will need  to research each animal and decide how much space the need, what type of food they eat and if they co-exist well with each other (if you are having more than one animal in each enclosure)

Using the graphic organizer and the information on this website San Diego Zoo choose the animals for your zoo.

Introduction to Persuasive Writing

Our Objective:  Brainstorm ideas for our persuasive letter.

When you write a persuasive letter you need to find a topic that you really care about.  We write persuasive letters to try to convince someone to agree with our point of view.  If you choose a topic that you don't care about you will not be as convincing.

On the board below, brainstorm some ideas by clicking in an empty space and brainstorming something that you really care about.  Once you have shared a few of your ideas, read some other ideas.  Then, open the google doc I shared with you called, "Persuasive Writing T-Chart" and choose some of the topics below, or add more of your own and write your ideas on the chart.

Working with Our ePortflios

Today we are going to add more to our portfolios.  If you haven't created all your pages, changed your theme or changed your font, go back to the other lesson and complete that first.

You need to write an introduction for each page.  On your home page you are going to write an All About Me section.  Include who you are, where you were born, what school you go to, your interests and whatever else you think is important for people to know.

On each of your subject pages introduce some things we do for that subject area, some things you are really good at, some things that are challenges for you and set a goal or two that you would like to work on.  You can include extra stuff if you want.

AFTER you have updated each of the sections, you may add a picture to each of your pages that represents what that page is about.

Watch this video to see how to edit your page and how to add pictures.

Have fun!
